Serbia, BSEC meeting on gas infrastructure

A meeting of the energy ministers from the member countries of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) will be held in Belgrade on Wednesday with regional projects regarding gas infrastructure on the agenda.

The meeting of BSEC, which is currently chaired by Serbia, will be opened by Serbia’s Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Milutin Mrkonjic, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy stated.

The meeting will be attended by ministers and senior officials from BSEC member states and representatives of other international, regional and expert organizations.

The goal of the meeting is to intensify dialogue on the need and potential for improving cooperation between BSEC members in energy, especially in relation to the development of regional gas infrastructure.

BSEC was founded at a summit of 11 countries (Russia, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Moldova, Greece, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia and Albania) in Istanbul in 1992.

Serbia has been a member of BSEC since 2004. It has since actively participated in the work of the organization and numerous working groups involving officials of related ministries. Serbia took over the 6-month BSEC chairmanship on January 1, 2012.

Besides the 12 members, there are observer countries taking part in BSEC work. They are Egypt, Austria, Belarus, Croatia, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Poland, Slovakia, Tunisia and U.S., along with organizations like the International Black Sea Club, Secretariat of the Energy Charter, EU and Black Sea Commission.
