Boris Tadic, presidential candidate of the List for a Better Life coalition, announced Wednesday in Vlasotince that the agreement with the Danieli company might be signed during summer.

Danieli is one of the world’s three largest steel companies, Tadic underlined, adding that talks with this company, which is Fiat’s traditional collaborator, are nearing completion.

“I believe we might sign the final agreement in June or July, which would imply another EUR 1.2 billion export, in addition to EUR 2 billion that the Fiat head talked about several days ago. This completely changes the condition of the Serbian economy and represents a process of its reindustrialization,” Tadic stressed.

He said that a tender was opened for the Smederevo steel mill after the preparation works carried out by the Serbian government with potential investors in this strategically very important area.

Tadic said it is very important for Serbia to maintain production in the sectors it is known for, particularly the aircraft industry.

Attracting large companies takes years and results can already be seen, he underlined, pointing out that Benetton wants to continue talks on new investments in the country.

He announced talks with the head of the Benetton company regardless of the fact that he is no longer president. There is a need for continuity in cases such as this one, he added.

No one will come if Serbia pursues a passive economic and foreign policy. We had EUR 2 billion of investments last year, more than all other regional countries combined. The obtaining of EU candidate status came at a rather unfavorable moment for the economy. Had this occurred some time earlier, we would have surely attracted EUR 8 billion of investments in 2011, Tadic pointed out.
