Rio Tinto’s Jadar project should contribute one and a half billion dollars a year to Serbian GDP, it was said today at the promotion of the Economic Impact Assessment of that project.
The assessment, which was presented at the Serbian Chamber of Commerce by Dragan Loncar, a professor at the Faculty of Economics in Belgrade, also states that the contribution through direct employment and jobs in related activities would be 5,000 employees.
The average net salary of employees in Jadro is projected at 1,222 dollars, which is 40 percent more than the current average in mining, stated Loncar.
Loncar said that the estimate implies that the construction of the mine will last for four years, until 2025, and that the exploitation of jadarite ore will last for 30 years, while Rio Tinto’s investments from the beginning to the end of the mine construction are projected at 2.4 billion dollars.
The presentation of the Economic Impact Assessment of the Jadar project is also attended by the director of the company Rio Sava, Vesna Prodanovic, and the president of PKS, Marko Cadez, Danas reports.
