Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Zorana Mihajlovic said today in Priboj, where a new biomass heating plant was opened, that the Jadar project, which includes the construction of a lithium and boron mine, is a development opportunity for Serbia, but also that there are conditions that should be fulfilled in order for it to be implemented.
Mihajlovic stated that Serbia is the only one in the world that has jadarite ore, which contains lithium and boron, critical mineral raw materials when we talk about climate change in the world.
– I think it is a good project, but there are conditions that it must meet. The first concern is the environment. It must meet all, not only our, but also world standards in this area. The second condition is to provide the maximum benefit to Serbia, and that is the complete production chain – she pointed out.
In addition to the mine, said Mihajlovic, we also want a factory of lithium batteries and electric vehicles, while the third condition is that the citizens support it in a referendum after receiving all relevant information about the project, Danas reports.
