The trade between Serbia and Indonesia totaled only USD 6mn last year, the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (PKS)-hosted Serbia-Indonesia Forum heard on Thursday.

The data was presented by Serbian Minister of Agriculture Goran Knežević, who added the figure was “very modest compared to the potential for cooperation between the two countries”.

Knežević also stated the trade covered only a small number of goods, mostly food and agricultural products, and that Serbia recorded a deficit.

The minister pointed out that the two countries’ economies were compatible in all sectors.

“The new government wants to open Serbia up to other countries, which are not EU members, and which have been unfairly neglected,” said the minister.

PKS President Miloš Bugarin expressed expectation that in addition to trade, cooperation would also extend to investments and concessions.

The Business Forum, which will also include bilateral meetings between businesspeople, is taking place during a two-day visit of an Indonesian state and business delegation to Serbia.
