“Serbia has obtained a geostationary orbital position for the FSS and BSS satellite network, announced by RATEL.

The World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC23), organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), was held from November 20 to December 15, 2023, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Securing a geostationary orbital position and the corresponding frequency resources, as highlighted by RATEL, is ‘an achievement of exceptional importance for the Republic of Serbia.'”

“The satellite network of the Republic of Serbia has been included in the FSS (Fixed Satellite Service) Plan, Appendix 30B, and BSS (Broadcast Satellite Service) Plan (Appendix 30/30A), which represents a valuable resource for the realization and development of satellite communications in Serbia.

Serbia is one of the few countries with the same orbital position for the future FSS and BSS satellite network, which undoubtedly presents a significant advantage, primarily in terms of economic benefits due to reduced costs in establishing these networks,” the statement reads.

RATEL reminds that back in 2020, they submitted a request to enroll the satellite network of the Republic of Serbia in the FSS Plan and modify the orbital position of Serbia’s satellite network in the BSS Plan.

“Additionally, RATEL initiated the amendment of RR Appendix 30B to simplify the procedure for enrolling satellite networks in the FSS Plan, and this topic was included in the agenda of the AI7 Topic E at the world conference. The initiative of RATEL was supported by the administrations of the following countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, North Macedonia, Moldova, Georgia, and South Sudan, which also applied for enrollment in the FSS Plan,” the statement further explains.

The accomplishment of this goal is a result, as mentioned, of the participation of RATEL representatives in numerous international meetings, engagement in preparing technical and regulatory proposals and studies, as well as developing and executing coordination agreements with other administrations.
