The Šabac-Loznica high-speed road, a key infrastructure project, is on track to be completed and opened by the end of the year, according to Goran Vesić, Serbia’s Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure. Currently, around 80 percent of the 55-kilometer road’s construction is finished.
Vesić noted that the entire high-speed road from Ruma to Loznica spans 78.5 kilometers. The first section, from Ruma to Šabac, was inaugurated on October 14 of last year. Construction, which began on June 19, 2020, is being carried out by the company Azvirt.
The Šabac-Loznica road will significantly reduce travel time, cutting the journey from Šabac to Loznica to about 30 minutes and from Loznica to Belgrade to roughly 75 minutes. Once the Fruškogorsk Corridor is completed in 2026, travel from Loznica to Novi Sad will take approximately one hour.
Additionally, Vesić highlighted ongoing work on the Slepčević-Badovinci section of the road, valued at 87.2 million euros, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. This section will enhance connections to Semberija, Bijeljina, and Republika Srpska.
Future plans include extending the road to Mali Zvornik, a 20-kilometer stretch for which the government will seek EU funding. Vesić also announced that tolls will be introduced on high-speed roads starting next year, with revenue allocated for road maintenance. A new company for toll collection will be established by the end of the year, and tolls will also apply to trucks over 7.5 tons to prevent damage to highways.
