Construction of South Stream goes “according to plan”

The construction of the South stream gas pipeline in Serbia is going according to the plan, Russia’s natural gas giant Gazprom has released. “According to the Action plan, the construction of the South Stream in Serbia is planned for January 2014 so the project is going completely in accordance with the plan,” the Russian company explained.

Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller will soon visit Serbia and discuss the gas pipeline and supplies of Russian natural gas to Serbia with Serbian officials and representatives of companies.

The Serbian parliament on February 19 adopted a law that should speed up the expropriation of land and obtaining of licenses necessary for the construction of the South Stream in Serbia.

The South Stream gas pipeline that will carry Russian natural gas under the Black Sea to Europe and it will run through Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, Slovenia and Italy.

The construction of the gas pipeline in Russia started in December 2012. Around EUR 16bn will be invested in the pipeline. The first gas should be delivered in late 2015.

The South Stream section that will go through Serbia will be 400 kilometers long and the project will be worth around EUR 1.7bn.

The pipeline in Serbia will be built by company South Stream Serbia where Russia’s Gazprom holds a 50 percent stake, while the other half is owned by Italy’s ENI, French EDF, and Germany’s BASF
