The Serbian government has decided to bring the legal level of aflatoxin from the present 0.05 to 0.5 micrograms per kilogram, back to the way it was until 2 years ago, Minister of Agriculture Goran Knezevic said on Thursday.

The government has received opinions from all relevant institutions, the Health Ministry, Military Medical Academy and Batut Institute, that there is no risk for health, he noted.

Those quantities cannot have a negative impact on the people’s health and will allow export of milk to two thirds of the world, he told a news conference.

The Serbian government adopted on Thursday a set of regulations on the distribution of subsidies in agriculture and rural development for 2013, as well as two conclusions for assistance to farms, Minister of Agriculture Goran Knezevic has said.

The regulation on subsidies allows for the start of the distribution of subsidies, while the conclusions include steps for assistance to farms that have been closed temporarily by the veterinary inspection and banned from selling raw milk, he told a news conference.

Farmers will each get 300kg of healthy corn per head of cattle from the commodity reserves, as well as an appropriate amount of zeolite to raise the level of animal feed, and thereby milk, in a short period of time, he pointed out.
