Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Aleksandar Antic has met with officials of the Rio Tinto company, who briefed him on the progress in jadarite deposit explorations, Rio Tinto’s most significant project in Serbia.
The project aimed at exploring deposits of jadarite, a unique borate mineral, was launched after a team of Rio Tinto geologists confirmed the presence of the mineral in the Jadar River valley, western Serbia, in 2004, the Ministry of Mining and Energy said in a statement on Thursday.
The Jadar Project is in the prefeasibility stage and has significant economic potential – when and if extraction starts, the deposits could meet much of the global demand for lithium and borates reports Tanjug.
