Serbia and Germany established formally on Tuesday a partnership in bioenergy, which provides full support for a series of projects in that field.

The projects include the one that seeks to develop a sustainable bioenergy market in Serbia, which will be completed in three years and is worth EUR 8 million, Serbia’s Minister of Agriculture and Environment Protection Snezana Bogosavljevic-Boskovic, who led a Serbian delegation to a ministerial conference in Stuttgart on Tuesday, has told Tanjug.

The Ministry of Environment and Energy of Baden-Wurttenberg and the German government organisation for international cooperation organised the conference on bioenergy partnership with Serbia held on Tuesday.

“Today’s event continues the initiative by our German partners who are conducting the sustainable bioenergy market project in Serbia. Two of our institutions are partners in this project, and the funding comes from the German federal ministry,” she said.

It was agreed at the conference to further strengthen political dialogue between the ministers and cooperation between companies, associations, universities and research organisations related to bioenergy, she pointed out.

“Serbia has significant potential regarding biomass in agriculture and forestry that could be used to produce energy and substitute fossil fuels,” she stressed, adding that Serbia’s goal was to improve that potential as much as possible in the coming years.

Besides practical and financially profitable solutions, these projects would also contribute to environment protection, Bogosavljevic-Boskovic noted.
