Turkish Halkbank enters Serbian market

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Rasim Ljajic announced today that the contract on sale of Cacanska Banka to Turkish Halkbank should be signed in ten days.

Ljajic said at the conference “Improving economic relations between Turkey and Serbia” that negotiations are in the final stage and that Halkbank received the proposal of the purchase agreement.

We are expecting a positive response from the Turkish side as there have been no complaints, Ljajic stated.

He pointed out that as soon as it receives answer from Halkbank, the Serbian government will give an opinion on the proposed terms of sale of Cacanska Banka in which the state has a share of 28.48%.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that the arrival of this Turkish bank is important for improving relations between the two countries.

Ljajic said that the government expects this bank to assist in lending to small and medium-sized enterprises, and noted that this would be a signal for other Turkish investors to come to Serbia.

Deputy General Manager of Halkbank Mustafa Aydin expressed satisfaction over the arrival on the Serbian market and stated that this will contribute to strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

Aydin pointed out that Halkbank is one of the biggest Turkish banks that was opened 72 years ago and does business mainly with companies.

Participants in the meeting that was held at the Hotel Metropol discussed possibilities for the arrival of new Turkish investors, increase of trade between the two countries and the arrival of Halkbank on the Serbian market.
