Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic stated that the Serbian border police cut yesterday on the border with Croatia, near village Vajska, a channel of smuggling cigarettes with excise stamps issued by the authorities in Pristina.

Dacic told the press after the ceremony at the Palace of Serbia at which he presented a Serbian ID card and passport to football player of Red Star club Evandro Goebel, that three nationals of Serbia and one of Croatia were arrested due to the attempted smuggling of cigarettes from Serbia to Croatia.

He specified that 500 boxes of cigarettes were found on a boat and announced continuation of work on this case so that all parts of this cigarette smuggling channel that goes from Kosovo could be found.

The Ministry plans to introduce thermovision video surveillance of border crossings which records every attempt at illegal crossing of the border.

The Minister explained that this project requires considerable funds which is why the plan is to first install this technology on the parts of the border towards the EU.

Dacic underlined that border control will be one of the crucial elements in Serba’s negotiations with the EU, noting that Serbia’s border services need big investments for their development.
