Minister of Finance and Economy Mladjan Dinkic met with Vice President of the Chinese Exim Bank Liu Liange in Belgrade and asked him for a long-term €850 million loan under very favourable terms, which would be used for the construction of roads in Serbia.

The Ministry says in a statement that the loan would be used for the construction of sections of Obrenovac–Ljig motorway on Corridor 11 and Pojate–Preljina motorway (Morava Corridor), which would help to step up the construction of Belgrade–Cacak motorway and the strategic motorway triangle in central Serbia.

If we manage to close this agreement, the contract with the bank and the contractors may be signed by the end of the year and the works would commence in 2013, Dinkic remarked.

At the meeting with Exim bank representatives Dinkic stressed that the Serbian government is pleased with the current works on the construction of the Zemun–Borca bridge.

He underlined that the construction of motorways is important for a large number of people in Serbia because all big investors have so far been focused on locations along Corridor 10.

Representatives of the Exim Bank noted that Serbia is the only Chinese strategic partner in central and Eastern Europe, adding that they are pleased with their cooperation so far.

They also stressed that the Exim Bank will be highly efficient.

The Serbian and Chinese governments signed an agreement on economic and technical cooperation in infrastructure in August 2009.

In August 2012 the Serbian government appointed Dinkic as President of the Serbian half of the mixed Serbia-China Inter-Governmental Committee for Trade and Economic Cooperation, the statement adds.
