Chinese are about to open Novo Cerovo mine in Serbia

Zijin Company will begin the technical renovation and expansion of the “Big Curve” and “Cave”, technical reconstruction and expansion of the Smelter and restart production at the Novo Cerovo mine, announced the CEO of Serbia Zijin Bor Copper Long Ji.

In a New Year’s greetings, Ji stated on the company’s website that Zijin, with the strong support of the Serbian Government, will complete the technical reconstruction and expansion of the mine in Majdanpek.

Ji says this year will be a year of construction for the company, and the past year has been full of challenges, he said.

“Compared to 2018, we increased cathode copper production 24 percent, revenue 45 percent, operating profit 300 percent”, Ji said. He says the company created the conditions for hiring locals, and that the number of employees in 2019 increased five percent from the end of 2018.

“The average wage of workers has increased 22 percent and is now 55 percent higher than the average national income at the Serbian level”, Ji added.

Speaking about safety and working conditions, he says they have improved significantly and that injuries are down 43 percent from 2018, Tanjug reports.

The new green space has been expanded, he says, to 110,000 square feet.

In 2020, the company will continue to work to improve production and operations, and will further reduce costs and increase productivity, Tanjug reports.
