Chinese Zijin has invested hundreds of millions of dollars since arriving in Serbia

In 2020, Serbia Zijin Copper invested 360 million dollars in the technical reconstruction and expansion of four mines and smelters in Bor, as well as in numerous safety and environmental protection projects, or ten million more than in December 2018.
According to the statement, the company will continue to invest and will strive to achieve fast and rapid development. It will complete the construction in the mine “Majdanpek”, the second flotation in the mine “Veliki Krivelj”, the system of wastewater treatment from “Jama”, the reconstruction of the smelter for a capacity of 180 thousand tons of cathode copper per year, with special focus on gas treatment system as a priority, equipment project slag flotation, as well as the project of new lime kilns in “Zagradje”, said the chief engineer of Zijin, Zhao Jianming.
Since arriving in Serbia, Chinese Zijin has invested about 700 million dollars in the former RTB Bor.
“In the copper mine Majdanpek, according to the dynamics of the project of construction of a new flotation plant, which will process 40 thousand tons of ore per day, about 65 percent of works have been completed, and the investment amounts to 137.7 million dollars. Also, 30 percent of works have been performed at another flotation of the mine ‘Veliki Krivelj’, in which 57.8 million dollars were invested. In ‘Novo Cerovo’ the reconstruction of the mining system was completed for 2.5 million tons of ore per year, which is an investment worth 19 million dollars. In the mine ‘Jama’ low-level works and other works have been started, which is a’ heavy’ investment of 32.3 million dollars. In order to implement a project that will enable the production of 180 thousand tons of cathode copper per year, the Bor smelter will build a new desulphurization system and new electrolysis in 2020. Comprehensive reconstruction has begun. Planned investments in the Bor smelter, by the end of 2022, amount to 262 million dollars,” Jianming said.
He added that a new system of lime kilns in “Zagradje” and another section for stone processing in “Krivelj stone pit ” are under construction, B92 reports.
