“Two days after Serbia obtained the candidate status (for EU membership), the Italian investor paid 20 percent of funds to the contractor,” Markovic, who is also leader of the United Serbia, said at Sunday’s session of the party’s Main Board.

The investment is worth EUR 9 million, and the Memorandum of Understanding with company’s owners was signed by Markovic and Deputy Prime Minister Verica Kalanovic in early December 2011.

The Serbian government will invest EUR 9,000 per employee from the budget, it was said on the occasion of the inking of the document. The factory should be completed in August, and around 150 workers will be engaged in its construction.

Confezioni Andrea has factories in Egypt, Romania and Tunis, and the plant in Jagodina will be the biggest one. The company produces tarpaulin covers for major European and world car companies.
