Serbia is on the right track to becoming a full fledged member of the European Union, Norwegian parliament speaker Dag Terje Andersen said Wednesday in talks with his Serbian colleague Slavica Djukic Dejanovic, who thanked him for the support his country was giving to Serbia in that respect.

Andersen said he was impressed by the work and the results the Serbian parliament had achieved, and stressed the importance of parliamentary cooperation between the two countries and the need for its further enhancement.

He said that cooperation in the military field was also important, and mentioned the participation of doctors from Serbia and Norway in peacekeeping missions.

The two ranking officials underlined that the bilateral relations between Serbia and Norway were at a very high level, particularly in the field of politics, but noted there was room for improvement in terms of economy.

The ratification and enforcement of the Serbia-EFTA agreement represents a solid basis for boosting that cooperation. Visits of top-ranking officials have significantly contributed to the friendly relations between the two countries, they agreed.

Djukic Dejanovic thanked the people of Norway for all they had done to help the Serbian inmates of World War Two concentration camps in that country.

The Serbian parliament speaker invited her Norwegian colleague to visit Serbia, which Andersen accepted with pleasure. Djukic Dejanovic was on a two-day visit to Norway at Andersen’s invitation.
