At the 82nd International Agricultural Fair, the Zasavica Special Nature Reserve has exhibited donkeys whose milk is used to produce cheese sold at EUR 1000 per kilo.

Djordje Belomarkovic, the Zasavica chef, has told Tanjug that the nature reserve currently has 110 donkeys.

“It takes 25 litres of donkey milk to produce one kilo of cheese, and a female donkey produces just about two decilitres of milk per day,” Belomarkovic said, adding that the lactation period in donkeys lasts slightly over 100 days per year.
