Economic and investment plan for Serbia and the entire Western Balkans an opportunity for faster development

The economic and investment plan for the Western Balkans, adopted by the European Commission in October, envisages further more intensive digitalization as well as an opportunity for even faster economic and social development of Serbia, said the coordinator of the Working Group of the National Convention on the EU for Chapter Ten, Nikola Markovic.
His assessment was conveyed in a statement by the working group of the National Convention on the EU for Chapter Ten, which conducted a virtual workshop to discuss the “Economic and Investment Plan for the Western Balkans” adopted by the European Commission on October 6, as well as parts of the digital future plans, sustainable development and green transition.
According to the workshop, the Information and Communication Sector in Serbia showed interest in participating in the implementation of the” Economic and Investment Plan for the Western Balkans”, especially for the contents of Chapter Seven, which deals with investments in the digital future, as well as Key Initiative Eight which encompasses digital infrastructure.
“The discussion also pointed out the need to propose a new Law on Electronic Communications as soon as possible and to reconsider the decision to abandon 5G mobile telephony,” the working group said in a statement.
Assistant Minister of Telecommunications Milan Dobrijevic, who participated in the virtual workshop, presented the current and planned activities on the introduction of national broadband infrastructure with a focus on rural areas.
Natasa Gligorijevic from the Center for Sustainable Development, who focused on the “Plan for Sustainable Development of Serbia”, also spoke at the workshop, while Natasa Djereg from the Center for Ecology and Sustainable Development spoke about the green transition as a way to protect health.
The working group of the National Convention on the EU for Chapter Ten will continue to support the participation of the domestic economy and institutions in the realization of the plan, it is concluded in their announcement, RTV reports.
