German Ambassador to Serbia Wolfram Mass and Director of the Office of the Government of Serbia for European Integrations Milica Delevic exchanged official note that was also attended by Minister of Environment, Mining and Spatial Planning Oliver Dulic.
Mass said that biomass has a stake of around 60 percent of the total potential of renewable energy sources in Serbia and that Serbia was importing 45 percent of required energy in 2009. “Serbia must use its own resources to reduce dependence on imported energy”, said Wolfram Mass.
Germany wants to help Serbia to improve the use of biomass as an energy source because it is important for the energy independence of Serbia and its economic development.
“Approved help of Germany creates a framework for future investment in renewable energy and biomass, as well to anyone who would like to be engaged in this activity will be qualified for soft loans”, said Minister Dulic, adding: “Serbia has a good legal framework for the use renewable energy sources.”
“It should be noted that this year Germany has allocated a total of 232 million Euros for Serbia, which is more than double the previous year”, said Wolfram Mass.
