A deadline for applications is November 2 and interested companies have until December 26 to submit their offers.

The original deadline was October 26. Russia’s Uralvagonzavod (UVZ) was the only company that applied to purchase the tender documentation by October 19.

Companies that had minimal revenue of USD 2bn in 2011 and that specialize in exploitation of metal and other ore, production of pig iron, coke, steel and ferroalloys or production of metal products and machines were eligible to take part in the tender.

The companies also had to make an offer worth at least USD 1.25mn.

The previous tender was called on April 18 but it was unsuccessful since all three companies that applied for the tender failed to submit their offers.

The Smederevo steel mill was sold to the state of Serbia in January 2012 for USD 1 by U.S. Steel which decided to sell the mill due to losses.

The production in the steel mill was temporarily suspended in the beginning of July.
