With the adoption of the proposal of the Law on Amendments to the Law on Budget, which approved 1.25 million euros for subsidies of insurance policy premiums to travel agencies, an important step was made to help the tourism sector during the pandemic.
Minister Tatjana Matić says that the goal of this measure is to help agencies, and especially smaller travel organizers, who are most endangered during the crisis.
A statement from the Ministry of Tourism states that the Minister reminded that most travel agencies had expired their obligatory insurance policies, which led them to lose their work licenses, and the epidemiological situation is an additional risk factor that insurance companies take into account when contracting new policies.
– The travel guarantee system is certainly necessary for passengers to be protected, but in difficult working conditions for agencies, especially smaller ones, it represented a large expense that will be reduced by subsidies – Matic explained.
She also stated that the Government of Serbia in the previous period passed measures to help tourism. In March, it adopted the Decree on the offer of a replacement trip for a tourist trip that was canceled or not realized due to Covid-19.
Favorable loans for liquidity and working capital from the special program of the Development Fund for small and medium enterprises were also provided, and the non-refundable support program helped hoteliers from 68 places in Serbia, Srbija Danas.
