By the end of the year, a competition will be announced for the reconstruction of the old building of the Military Academy, on the corner of Resavska and Nemanjina streets, which will become the Museum of the City of Belgrade.
This was announced by the Deputy Mayor of the City of Belgrade, Goran Vesic.
He reminded in the Old Palace, where the Day of the Museum of the City of Belgrade was marked, that the museum has existed for 117 years and that it has not had its own house for all that time, but is located in 14 locations. In recent years, we have done everything necessary for the Museum of the City of Belgrade to finally get its own house, and I am proud to announce that a competition for the reconstruction of the old building of the Military Academy, on the corner of Resavska and Nemanjina streets, will be announced by the end of this year,” Vesic said.
He added that the building has 17,000 square meters and that its reconstruction will begin next year, and that it will finally become the Museum of the City of Belgrade.
“It will cost the City around 20 million euros. We have made a decision, at my suggestion, to finance it and I will take responsibility that 20 million euros will be spent on culture. We stand firmly behind that decision and I think it is a historic thing,” said Vesic and added that the reconstruction will last for the next three years, B92 reports.
