The Italian company Andrea Confezioni is to open a plant for the production of protective canvas for cars in Jagodina, in central Serbia. The town’s mayor, Dragan Markovic, said that construction works on the new plant, which will employ 520 people, will begin on March 20.

“Two days after Serbia obtained the status of EU candidate country, the Italian company paid 20% of the funds,” said Markovic, who was quoted by the Tanjug. Andrea Confezioni’s investment is of a total of 9 million euros, with the Serbian government proposing a contribution of 9,000 euros for every new hiring.

The deal to build the new plant was signed in December last year by Italian officials with the town’s mayor and with Serbia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Verica Kalanovic.

Some 150 workers will be employed for the construction of the site, which will be completed in August.

Andrea Confezioni, which produced waterproof protective canvas for a number of car industries around the world, has other sites in Egypt, Romania and Tunisia, but the new plant in Serbia will be the biggest yet.
