The value of construction works in Serbia was up by 18.3 percent in 2015, says Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic, noting that Serbia has once again became a good place for investments.

The country’s caretaker government has managed to achieve the first-ever fiscal deficit reduction, reforming unsuccessful public enterprises and tackling the issue of companies under privatisation, she told the Diplomacy & Commerce monthly.

“For the first time after who knows how many decades, we have a section of the railway company – Serbia Cargo – that is self-funded and not subsidised by the state. The most important news for Smederevo – which had practically been written off by everyone after the departure of US Steel from the steel mill – has arrived from the city. Now we have the Chinese, who will revive the company, which has a significant impact on Serbia’s GDP and an entire city lives off it,” Mihajlovic said.
