Opening the customs complex, Cvetkovic stressed that the new customs office, with a new customs point and terminal for freight vehicles, will be a huge advantage for businesspeople in Uzice and the neighbouring municipalities, adding that this will also be a step forward toward establishing full inspection control at border crossings and interior control points.

He recalled that over the past four years, the Serbian government strived to ensure even-balanced development in the entire country.

In the economic sense, this has been a difficult period for both Serbia and the entire world, but the Serbian government responded to the challenge with adequate measures and distributed the burden of the crisis in a balanced manner, the Prime Minister said.

A responsible economic policy allowed Serbia to weather the crisis, to preserve capacity and not to get overloaded with debts, he said.

Cvetkovic pointed out that despite the economic crisis we managed to build 160 kilometres of motorway, several impressive bridges, 25 new schools and to revive the construction industry.

The goal is for Serbia to be regulated by European standards, he said, adding that the dream of generations is for our country to become a modern European crossroads connecting the East and the West which is achievable only if we build a strong Serbia in peace.

Uzice Mayor Jovan Markovic said that the opening of the new customs office is a key move of the Serbian government in supporting the economic development in Uzice and southwestern Serbia.

Markovic said that these institutions offer people in the Uzice region a chance to develop their economic capacity.

The funds for implementation of investments worth RSD 315 million were secured by the Ministry of Finance.
