Minister of Agriculture, Trade, Forestry and Water Management Dusan Petrovic stated that at today’s session the government passed a decree on selling 50,000 tonnes of mercantile corn at RSD 18 per kilogram in order to reduce the production costs of animal feed and boost meat production.

Petrovic told a press conference following the government session that the sale of corn from the state commodity reserves will be conducted via the Novi Sad Commodity Exchange.

The Minister observed that there are no reasons to increase the prices of basic foodstuffs, namely the ones produced mainly from domestic raw material.

He affirmed that the prices of foodstuffs such as non-alcoholic beverages and confectionery will increase, but mostly if they are imported.

On the other hand, we have met with domestic beverage and confectionery producers and they have agreed not to increase their prices, Petrovic specified.

It is important that we keep monitoring the changes in the market, although there are no measures we could introduce to prevent anyone from raising their prices, he noted.

Petrovic said that at the proposal of the Ministry of Agriculture, Trade, Forestry and Water Management the government decided to abolish special import duties on import of calves, cattle and pigs for further fattening.

The Serbian government also adopted bills ratifying an agreement between Serbia on the one side and Greece and Brazil on the other in the defence remit, between Serbia and Poland on cooperation in combating organised crime and between Serbia and Hungary in transport.
