Online trade in Serbia is constantly growing

More than 3.3 million citizens of Serbia use a computer every or almost every day, while 40 percent of the population this year used e-government services. In the last three months alone, 42.3 percent of our fellow citizens bought goods or services online, according to the latest annual survey by the Bureau of Statistics. Footwear and sports products were bought the most – as much as 68 percent of orders, followed by furniture and equipment for the house, toys, consumer electronics and food delivery. However, in the observed period of three months, half of the ordered goods were worth less than 50 euros, a third between 50 and 100, and about 13 percent of citizens ordered products worth between 100 and 300 euros.
According to the data of the National Bank of Serbia, in the first half of this year, the number of dinar payments on the websites of domestic traders amounted to about 11 million transactions, which is 91 percent more than in the first half of 2020.
In Serbia, 81.5 percent of households have an Internet connection, which is an increase of 0.5 percent compared to last year. As many as 76.7 percent of households have a computer, which is 2.4 percent more than the previous year. The latest research showed that 81.2 percent of citizens used the Internet, while there are still ten percent of those who have never had that opportunity. Almost half of the population uses the Internet every or almost every day.
For business needs, 100 percent of companies use the Internet, while 84.5 percent of them own a website. During 2020, 27 percent of companies sold products and services online.
When asked about the devices represented in households, it was shown that 98.4 percent of them have a television, but only four percent less are those who own a mobile phone. There has also been an increase in the number of households that also have laptops. When it comes to those who have an internet connection, 58% of households have incomes of up to 300 euros.
According to the survey, when asked why they do not have access to the Internet, 80 percent of respondents answered that there is no need for it, seven percent said that the equipment is too expensive, while 19.2 percent of households cited lack of skills as the reason.
By the way, the statistical report says that in the last three months, 81 percent of citizens in Serbia used the Internet, 3.3 percent of those who joined the network more than three months ago, and five percent a year ago. Compared to 2020, the number of Internet users in Serbia has increased by seven percent, Politika reports.
