Project “Zidjin” for exploitation of Borska River underground reservoir. The site is estimated to have reserves of 4 million tonnes of copper, 130 tons of gold and 1.000 tons of silver.

The Chinese company “Zidjin”, a strategic partner of RTB “Bor”, in cooperation with the Bor Institute for Mining and Metallurgy, has begun the preparation of a major mining project for the exploitation of the Borska River underground reservoir. The site is estimated to contain reserves of nearly four million tons of copper, 130 tons of gold and more than 1.000 tons of silver, worth more than 30 billion dollars, according to Novosti.

According to the data, geological reserves of close to 320 million tons of ore have been explored and determined so far, which guarantees its half-century exploitation. However, it is assumed that the Borska River actually covers more than one billion tons of ore, with an average content of one percent of copper, which is almost three times more than the currently exploited RTB mines.

Borska River, whose activation requires the investment of at least 150 million euros, has so far been explored only at a depth of 450 meters. It is assumed that this deposit, with increasing depth, expands, and that the content of copper and precious metals increases. In other news, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic will meet with a delegation from Zidjin, led by company president Chen Jing. Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Serbia, Chen Bo, will also be present at the talks.

The fact that the Borska River is an attractive reservoir, which, in its mineralogy, is reminiscent of the underground copper mine Chukaru Peki, is also evidenced by the 2002 data. The World Bank, before launching the first tender for the sale of RTB, issued a study according to which the future of local mining should be based on the exploration and exploitation of the deposit.
