Payment growth via electronic and mobile banking in Serbia continued

The National Bank of Serbia (NBS) announced today that the growth trend in the number of electronic and mobile banking users continued, and at the end of the second quarter of this year, 2.93 million users had contracted these services, which is 13.33% more than at the same time 2019.
Namely, the growth in the number of mobile payment users, as it is stated, is even more significant because at the end of the second quarter, 1.92 million citizens had contracted this service, which is an increase of 21.56% compared to the same period last year.
At the end of the second quarter of this year, the number of individuals who had a contracted electronic banking service increased by 13.61%, or 2.65 million, compared to the end of the same quarter of the previous year, while the number of companies and entrepreneurs increased to 281,718, or an increase of 10.76%.
The NBS also states that there was an increase in the number of users – individuals who had a contracted mobile payment service to 1.88 million, or 21.38%, while the number of legal entities and entrepreneurs using these services increased by 30.94 percent, at 40,493.
– In the second quarter of this year, compared to the same period last year, there was an increase of 49.45% in the number of transactions performed using mobile banking, so that number rose to 9.06 million, while a decrease of 2, 63% in the number of executed transactions using electronic banking to 33.65 million transactions – it is stated.
The number of transactions performed using mobile banking initiated by natural persons in the same period increased by 52.31% to 8.20 million, while the number of transactions performed using electronic banking by natural persons increased by 12.22% to 6.18 million .
In transactions initiated by legal entities and entrepreneurs using mobile banking, the number of transactions increased by 26.72% to 859,665, and at the same time a decrease of 5.45% was observed when considering the number of transactions performed by legal entities and entrepreneurs using electronic banking in in the second quarter of this year it was 27.46 million.
At the end of the second quarter of 2020, payment service providers accepted payment cards at 95,170 POS terminals, which is an increase of 6.49% compared to the same period last year, while the number of virtual points of sale in the same period increased by 42.06% at 1,405 points of sale, and the number of ATMs increased by 3.03%.
The number of issued payment cards at the end of the second quarter of this year amounted to 9.11 million, which is 11.04% more compared to the same period in 2019.
When looking at transactions at POS terminals at merchants in Serbia using cards not issued by a payment service provider from Serbia, 2.35 million transactions were made in the second quarter of 2020, which is 47.12 percent less than at the same time last year.
As it was pointed out, the increase in the number of transactions is even more significant when looking at the data on payment transactions with cards and e-money used for online purchases of goods and services.
Thus, in the second quarter of 2020, 4.89 million transactions were made for the purchase of goods and services with cards and e-money on the Internet in all currencies, which is 64.23 percent more than in the second quarter of 2019.
When looking at transactions with payment cards and e-money for the purchase of goods and services on the Internet in dinars (on the websites of domestic merchants), the increase is even more significant, the central bank said.
In the second quarter of 2020, 3.20 million transactions in dinars were realized, ie 105.59% more than at the same time last year.
The value of these transactions in the second quarter of this year amounted to 60.8 million euros and is higher by 77.9% compared to the value realized in the second quarter of 2019.
The number of transactions with payment cards and e-money when the sale on the website was made in euros amounted to 791,847 in the second quarter of this year, which is 7.88 percent more than the number of these transactions realized in the second quarter of 2019.
The value of these transactions in the second quarter of 2020 amounted to 24.6 million euros and was lower by 26.8% than at the same time last year.
The number of transactions with payment cards and e-money when the sale on the website was made in US dollars amounted to 756,664 in the second quarter of this year, which is 44.49% more than in the same period last year, while the value of these transactions was 12.6 million dollars and was lower by 6.57% compared to the value achieved in the second quarter of 2019, eKapija reports.
