Serial production of Serbia-made Fiat 500L for the U.S. market will begin in March while sale, Fiat Automobili Srbija CEO Antonio Cesare Ferrara told Tanjug. The sale of the model will start in the second half of the year. According to Ferrara, the U.S. market will be offered two versions of the five-seater 500L and two versions of the seven-seater.

“Production and sale are going well so far. We sold 600 cars more than expected in January, and our employees are working overtime due to high demand,” said Ferrara.

“This year we plan to put out between 110,000 and 180,000 cars, counting all versions of the 500L. If the high demand continues, we sincerely hope we will manage this,” he said.

Noting that new machinery has been installed at the plant, Ferrara said there would also be new jobs.

In 2012, most 500Ls were sold in Italy, followed by France, Spain and Germany.
