Representatives of the Abu Dhabi Development Fund (Al Dahra-Serbia), the Government of Serbia and JVP Srbijavode held a meeting on the occasion of improving cooperation and realization of the project “Development of irrigation in Serbian agriculture”.
The meeting was attended by the director of Srbijavode, Goran Puzovic, and the general director of Al Dahra-Serbia, Salmin Al Almeria.
The project, having the importance of agriculture in Serbia in water, was initiated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, and is financed by a loan from the Abu Dhabi Development Fund.
Due to the complexity of such a project, and taking into account that irrigation in Serbia is considered in several strategic documents, and taking into account that it is necessary to create appropriate economic and organizational frameworks for irrigation development, the project is being implemented in phases.
It is added that the goal of the project is to increase productivity and efficiency in the agricultural sector through the expansion of irrigation systems.
The first phase, apart from the construction of the system in Vojvodina, included the construction of systems in central Serbia, namely regional systems in the area of Pancevacki rit, as well as reclamation systems in the area of Macva and Cacak. The works include the construction or reconstruction of the canal network, facilities on the canal network and the construction of the main pipeline.
– Capture, distribution and maintenance of the projected water levels in the canal network of these systems are envisaged by means of an appropriate number of standard control stops and low pressure pumping stations. Therefore, in order to regulate the water level in the system, it was necessary to build about 20 pumping stations of the canal type and regulatory constitutions. The value of these works is around 20 million euros – it is stated.
After the meeting, the participants visited the works of rehabilitation and modernization of the hydromeloration system in Pancevacki rit. Numerous embankments, a network of canals, pumping stations and other facilities have been built for protection from external and internal waters and for irrigation of this area.
Second phase
Within this fund, new projects are being prepared, which will represent the second phase and which will cover another 55,000 hectares.
Within this phase, it is planned to build and expand the irrigation system in Pancevacki rit – phase II and III, Surcin, Topola, as well as the modernization of 58 pumping stations on the territory of central Serbia, eKapija reports.
