Railways get permit for Stadler trains

The Serbian Railways company obtained a permit for use of new Stadler trains powered by electric engines, and the preparations for introduction of the first electric-driven vehicles into traffic on the line from Belgrade to Subotica via Novi Sad should be completed in mid-June.

According to a release issued by the Serbian Railways, the company signed a contract with Swiss railway vehicle manufacturer Stadler concerning the delivery of 21 electric engine trains in March 2013.

A total of 15 Stadler trains have been delivered to the Serbian Railways by now and the remaining six compositions should arrive within the envisaged deadline, i.e. by August 31, 2015.

The contract worth around EUR 99 million is being realized from a loan granted by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, states the release issued by the Serbian Railways who obtained the permit for introduction of new electric-engine Stadler FLIRT III 413/417 train car from the Railways Directorate.

The new trains will also be gradually introduced into traffic on other main electrified railway lines used by the Serbian Railways, states the release.
