Serbia and Guatemala reached an agreement on visa waiver

The Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Government of the Republic tof Serbia, Nikola Selakovic, met today with the President of Guatemala, Alejandro Eduardo Giammatei Falla, and on that occasion said that Serbia is determined to further strengthen ties and cooperation with that friendly country.
Selakovic pointed out that bilateral relations are based on sincere friendship, respect and understanding, and expressed hope that President Falla would pay an official visit to Serbia.
He conveyed the greetings of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and congratulations to Guatemala on successful economic reforms, and said that the fact that the two countries will mark 140 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations next year speaks volumes about the long tradition of our friendship.
As he assessed, such a jubilee deserves to be adequately marked in all fields, in addition to political – bilateral visits and the signing of a comprehensive agreement on cooperation, as well as in the field of culture, science, education, sports.
According to him, the two countries should use all potentials for the improvement of economic cooperation in order for the activities in that field to follow the level of excellent political relations.
The head of Serbian diplomacy expressed gratitude for the confirmation that the Guatemalan delegation, led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, will attend the upcoming commemorative gathering in Belgrade on the occasion of marking the 60th anniversary of the First Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement.
The interlocutors reached an agreement on the abolition of visas for citizens of both countries and that the agreement will be signed in Belgrade during the mentioned gathering.
Selakovic especially expressed his gratitude to Guatemala for the sincere support it provides to our country on the issue of preserving territorial integrity and sovereignty, and for its commitment to respecting the basic principles of international law.
He also informed the President of Guatemala about the Brussels dialogue, as well as about the current provocations of Pristina and the difficult position of the Serbian people in Kosmet.
Introducing the President to Serbia’s economic reforms in the past seven years, the Minister emphasized that our country is now able to help friendly countries, and that it has so far donated approximately 1.1 million coronavirus vaccines to countries in the region, Africa and the Middle East.
The head of Serbian diplomacy informed his interlocutor that Serbia will determine financial support for the Guatemalan village named after our country, which will be intended for eliminating the consequences of the earthquake and building houses for families there.
The meeting between Minister Selakovic and the President of Guatemala was also attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Labor of that Central American state, eKapija reports.
