Serbia’s financial boost: Record investments in agriculture, education and infrastructure

Minister of Finance Siniša Mali highlighted that, in the first eight months of the year, the state budget has exceeded projections by 132.5 billion dinars. He announced a range of significant projects, both large and small, that are set to be implemented in the near future.

Mali noted that the agricultural sector will see an unprecedented investment of 18 billion dinars, resulting in a total of 137 billion dinars allocated to agriculture, which now accounts for 7.3% of the budget—up from the previous target of 5%. He emphasized this as a demonstration of the government’s commitment to supporting farmers.

Additionally, he announced increases of 12 billion dinars for education, 25.6 billion for health and 111 billion dinars for capital investments.

Key infrastructure projects were also outlined, including the construction of a bypass around Kragujevac, nine expressways, the completion of the high-speed railway to Subotica by the end of the year, and the start of the high-speed railway to Niš.

Mali also mentioned the ongoing construction of a subway in Belgrade and various upgrades to health facilities, including eight general hospitals and several specialized clinics.

He stressed that investments extend beyond major infrastructure projects, targeting improvements that directly enhance the quality of life for citizens, including investments in science and technology parks.

Finally, Mali detailed the inclusion of 22 schools in the budget review, ensuring continued support for education across various regions.
