Governor of the National Bank of Serbia, Jorgovanka Tabaković, projected that while occasional price increases for certain products and services are expected, these will be less frequent and less severe compared to the past two years.

In an interview with the newspaper Politika, Tabaković cited the recent rise in coffee and cocoa prices on the global market due to poor harvests caused by adverse weather conditions, which has also impacted domestic prices.

She noted that some services may see price adjustments once, potentially causing a slight increase in inflation for July. However, she assured that these changes will remain within the acceptable deviation from the inflation target.

Regarding interest rates, Tabaković explained that while interest rates on loans and deposits generally move in the same direction, they do not always adjust perfectly in sync due to the typically long-term nature of loans.

The governor emphasized that the National Bank is working to ensure that any adjustments to interest rates are as coordinated as possible, adhering to market principles.
