Construction permits down 2% in July, residential buildings most common

In July 2024, the Republic Statistical Office reported that 2,653 construction permits were issued, marking a 2.0 percent decline compared to the same month last year. Of these permits, 83.5 percent were for buildings, while the remaining 16.5 percent were for other types of structures.

Focusing solely on buildings, 81.7 percent of the permits were for residential buildings, and 18.3 percent were for non-residential buildings. Among the permits for other structures, the majority were for pipelines, communication, and electrical lines, accounting for 69.2 percent of this category.

The issued permits in July 2024 are expected to facilitate the construction of 3,001 apartments, with an average size of 74.8 square meters. Of these new apartments, 12.5 percent will be in single-apartment buildings, with an average size of 140.9 square meters, while 85.5 percent will be in multi-apartment buildings, where the average size will be smaller at 63.9 square meters.

The estimated value of new construction work in July 2024 represents 79.5 percent of the total estimated value of ongoing projects. Regionally, the Mačvan region is anticipated to have the highest construction activity, accounting for 25.4 percent of the estimated new construction value. This is followed by the Belgrade region with 17.0 percent, the Severnobačka region with 6.8 percent, the Srem region with 5.9 percent, and the Nišava region with 5.2 percent. Other regions show shares ranging from 0.1 to 4.5 percent.
