Serbia signs a financial agreement with EU worth €178.5 million to support strengthening rule of law

Ambassador Vincent Degert, Head of Delegation of the European Union to Serbia, and Mr Bozidar Djelić, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, signed a financial agreement between the European Commission and the Serbian Government on the National Programme for the Republic of Serbia for 2011, worth €178.5 million. The funds will be used for projects which will help Serbia implement reforms needed for future EU membership and bring direct benefits for Serbian citizens.

Among other things, the funds will be used for projects with the following priorities:

1. Strengthening the rule of law (€12 million) and reforming public administration (€26 million)

2. Overcoming the economic crisis and improving competitiveness of the Serbian private sector (€18.5 million)

3. Supporting social inclusion and reconciliation between peoples of the region (€32 million)
