Serbia will be indispensable for transit

From the fall of next year, 2021, from Belgrade to Novi Sad will be reached by train in just 27 minutes – the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of Serbia Zorana Mihajlovic repeated today at the construction site of the railway viaduct near Beska on the route of the future Belgrade-Budapest high-speed railway.
Mihajlovic reminded that no investments had been made in railway traffic for thirty years, which is now changing, and pointed out that “the country is progressing as much as it is investing in its railway”.
“Our goals are to travel to Novi Sad in 27 minutes without stopping next fall, to start work on the third section from Novi Sad to Subotica as soon as possible, as well as to have a completed section from Belgrade to Nis by 2025, which will begin next year, ” she enumerated.
Since Serbia is a transit country, “with the completion of the railway Corridor 10, we will become an unavoidable route because we are 300 kilometers shorter than Corridor 4, which passes through Romania and Bulgaria,” the minister said.
She announced talks with European partners for the Nis-Presevo high-speed railway and the continuation of the reconstruction of the Belgrade-Bar railway, in which no investment has been made since its construction.
“We work with the best companies in the world and we invest huge money in infrastructure,” the minister said.
Nebojsa Shurlan, director of “Serbian Railway Infrastructure”, said that a tunnel and a Cortanovci viaduct were being built on the Belgrade-Novi Sad line, and that the degree of realization was 92 percent, adding that the works were expected to be completed within the agreed deadline.
Mansurbek Sultanov, director of the “Russian Railways” branch in Serbia, which is carrying out the works, assessed that the project is “an important step forward in the history of Serbia” and important for the Balkans and Europe.
“It is about the integration of Serbian railways into the pan-European corridor. We have made a nice cooperation between Serbian and Russian companies. We are also working on a dispatch center and together we will reconstruct the bar railway,” said Sultanov, Beta reports.
