“The state will not take any step in the implementation of the Jadar project without respecting environmental protection procedures, no matter how significant this project was,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Mining and Energy Zorana Mihajlovic.
During her visit to Loznica, she talked with the mayor Vidoje Petrovic and the head of the Macva administrative district Vladan Krasavac about the future jadarite mine and further construction of the electricity network for the needs of the population and future investors.
“The Jadar project was the most important point of the meeting, because it will have an impact on the whole of Europe. 10% of the world’s lithium reserves are located here, and that is a great wealth, but nothing will be done if every decision and procedure in the field of environmental protection is not respected,” said Minister Mihajlovic after the meeting.
She announced that a team of representatives of the Ministry and local self-government will be formed, which will discuss all issues related to this project on a daily basis, with the goal of truthfully informing citizens about everything and preventing the spread of untruths and half-truths.
Rio Sava Exploration, part of the Rio Tinto Corporation, recently announced that the construction of an underground mine for the exploitation of jadarite near Loznica, from which lithium was obtained for the production of batteries for electric cars, should start next year and last until 2026, Bonitet reports.
