Serbian infrastructure projects gain interest among Turkish investors

The construction of two highway corridors in Serbia and a railway line have gained interest among Turkey investors, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu was quoted as saying on his visit to Serbia on Tuesday.

Davutoglu made an official visit to Belgrade on June 10 and held separate meetings with Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic, Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic and Minister of Trade Rasim Ljajic.

According to a statement released after the meeting with Serbian PM Aleksandar Vucic, Turkey is interested to participate in the construction of pan-European Corridor 10 and 11 as well as the railway line from Kragujevac in Serbia to the Port of Bar in Montenegro.

Turkish company already owns 60 percent of this port at the very entrance to Adriatic in the city of Bar in the south of Montenegro which will soon be connected by a railway line to Kragujevac in Serbia, where Italian Fiat produces automobiles.

“Turkey considers Serbia key partner in maintaining stability in Southeast Europe”, Davutoglu was quoted as saying in the statement.

On his meeting with Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic, Davutoglu said that a business forum Serbia-Turkey will be held in October this year which will give a strong impulse to further growth of economic relations as well as the scale of the trade between two countries.

During the meeting with Dacic and Ljajic, Davutoglu said that certain Turkish companies are interested to invest in Serbia, and announced that Belgrade, capital of Serbia and capital of Turkey Istanbul will officially become sister cities in near future.
