Serbia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic stated that three important areas were discussed at a meeting with the IMF mission today: the restructuring of the Serbian Railways, which is going according to plan, merger of the Corridors of Serbia and Roads of Serbia, and the implementation of the Law on planning and construction.

Mihajlovic said after the meeting that all of the activities are proceeding according to the plan, noting that the only delay is with the merger of Corridors of Serbia and Roads of Serbia, which will be completed in the next month.

She said that the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure had several obligations under the Memorandum with the IMF, adding that as of 1 July Serbian Railways will operate through three separate companies, as a holding company whose life will be limited to two years.

Referring to the merger of Corridor and Roads of Serbia, Mihajlovic said that the companies’ merger would result in savings of 20% to 25%, and added that she accepted the proposal of the IMF that the merger is completed the next month.

The third topic discussed today is the implementation of the Law on planning and construction, which applies to all local governments, she pointed out.

This government has achieved in the shortest possible time to pass all by-laws, Mihajlovic said, adding that the IMF presented the draft laws on conversion and cadastre, which in the next seven days should be on the public debate.

The Deputy Prime Minister added that today’s meeting was also attended by representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the World Bank (WB).
