Energy Advisor of Prime Minister of Serbia Petar Skundric told Tanjug that in 2012 he expects large investments in the energy sector, construction of new hydropower plants and a cogeneration gas power plant in Novi Sad, and the completion of reconstruction of the Refinery in Pancevo (20 km south of Belgrade).

I also expect that a program for the refinery in Novi Sad will be defined, as well as that the refinery will be put in a higher position, he said, and announced that the construction of two wind parks in Banat (northeastern Serbia) and Pester (southwestern Serbia) will begin next year.

A large number of small hydropower plants will be built, and it is possible that we will find strategic partners for the design and construction of the reversible hydropower plant Djerdap 3, which would be the biggest energy facility of its kind in Europe, he said.

The project Djerdap 3 has already attracted the attention of a great number of potential partners, whereas Romania and other neighboring countries are interested in the realization of the project, because this is potentially the largest energy project in the region, Skundric pointed out.

The next government could decide on this strategic project, bearing in mind that the largest world energy companies are interested in starting the talks on its construction, he concluded.
