The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Union (EU) have supported more than 15 million euros in green technology investments in close to 3,000 households in the Western Balkans over the last two years through the Western Balkans Green Economy Financing Program (WG GEFF). When it comes to Serbia, investments worth close to 2 million euros were supported, and nearly 600 families from Serbia improved their energy efficiency and reduced their energy bills by investing in green technologies. The citizens of Serbia most often choose to invest in wall insulation, windows and biomass stoves.

The GEFF project aims to help households by investing in energy-efficient technologies such as wall insulation, modern windows and doors, heating/cooling and insulation systems, save money through lower energy bills and provide more comfortable housing throughout years. By using green technologies, every household can also make a significant contribution to reducing air pollution.

In order for homeowners to have access to energy efficient technologies in one place, the Technology Selector, an online catalog with 13 categories of approved energy efficient products by the EBRD, was developed as part of GEFF. Currently, the Technology Selector can find around 5,000 energy efficient products from almost 20,000 different manufacturers and sellers in the Western Balkans, which all interested buyers can obtain and qualify for an EU financial incentive of up to 20% of the value of loans for energy efficient technologies through partner financial institutions: UniCredit Bank and Erste Bank.

Climate change and air pollution affect our health and quality of life every day. In line with international efforts to combat climate change and the EBRD’s specific competences in the field of sustainable energy, the EBRD’s priority is to support energy efficiency improvements and energy savings in Serbia as well as in other Western Balkan countries.

The WB GEFF program is being implemented with the support of the European Union (EU), the Federal Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Austria (BMF) and the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF) in cooperation with the Secretary of the Energy Community (ECS).
