The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has provided one and a half billion euros for financing projects in the Western Balkans, of which between 700 and 750 million for Serbia, says the EBRD’s regional director for WB, Zsuzsanna Hargitai.
– Until today, we have committed ourselves to new financing of 830 million euros for the entire WB, and 480 million in Serbia alone. Our focus will be on supporting small and medium enterprises and we have provided 370 million just to finance these enterprises in Serbia – said Hargitai
Speaking about the planned investments in Serbia by the end of the year, she says that, in addition to supporting the small and business sector, the EBRD will finance projects in various areas.
According to her, the EBRD will finance the construction of wind farms, and it should start an ambitious project with EPS for “smart metering” of consumption.
She says that the financing of the construction of the section Nis – Plocnik with 85 million euros, which is part of the future highway from Nis to Pristina, is also planned.
The EBRD should also sign the first agreement for financing broadband internet network in rural parts of Serbia, Hargitai stated.
She points out that there will soon be a lot of good news regarding investments in the Western Balkans.
– The EU is also working on an ambitious economic and investment plan for the WB, and good news will arrive in the coming weeks – Hargitai added.
By the way, Brussels announced that the Commissioner for Enlargement Oliver Vraheji will present the Enlargement Package and the Economic Investment Plan for the Western Balkans on October 6 before the Foreign Policy Committee of the European Parliament.
After the presentation in Brussels, Vraheji will personally present the report on Serbia’s progress and investment plan in Belgrade on October 8, Srbija Danas reports.
