Serbia will have a growth of one percent of gross domestic product in the green transition, and if we know that it will increase the resilience of our economy to climate change, then the transition to a circular economy is a good thing, said the head of the Center for Circular Economy of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce. Mitrovic.
He pointed out at the opening of the Digital Platform for Circular Economy (CE-HUB) that this is also a chance for the Serbian economy to be overhauled in line with low-carbon changes.
The platform, founded by the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, UNDP and the German Organization for International Cooperation (GIZ), will provide support to companies through business models, examples of good practice and tools to facilitate the application of the circular business model.
We are now building two pylons in the CE-HUB system. One is the Alliance for Green Transition; in which we have 23 founders, and the others are green managers in companies, who should be in charge of the transition processes, Mitrovic pointed out.
In the coming days, he announced direct contacts with everyone who expresses interest in being part of the Alliance for Transition.
We will come out with a very precise knowledge transfer agenda. We will again realize the Academy of Circular Economy within the Business Academy, because we realized that there are now two key tools: knowledge transfer and access to finance, said Mitrovic.
Mihailo Vesovic, Director of the Sector for Strategic Analysis, Internationalization and Services of PKS, pointed out that CE-HUB is a source of knowledge and activities intended primarily for the Serbian economy, in order to turn to green investments.
Advisor for foreign investments in the Cabinet of the President of Serbia, Marko Pecanac, pointed out that the transition to a circular economy is not a question of state policy, but a question of the survival of the domestic economy, which should make it competitive.
As far as the state is concerned, we are here to listen to you and to adopt norms that will help the economy, Marko Pecanac told businessmen.
He added that I can count on the support of the cabinet of the President and the Government of Serbia for the circular economy to come to life in Serbia.
There are currently several thousand illegal landfills in Serbia, which pollute the environment, and the development of the waste recycling industry could bring 30,000 new jobs by 2030, said the head of the UNDP’s Vital Development Sector, Zarko Petrovic.
According to him, as much as 33 percent of greenhouse gas emissions can be reduced by the circular economy.
Presenting the digital platform, CE-HUB team associate Sandra Kamberovic pointed out that the goal of the platform is to help the economy and to see that business transformation can be significantly supported from various sources, including sources from the European Union.
She stated that the platform has four units on the home page, which concern transition.
In HUB, the main focus is on education, where we will work on certain topics through webinars this year, and businessmen will also be able to suggest topics, said Kamberovic and added that one of the topics is certainly decarbonization.
Other units are dedicated to the green alliance, where information and opinions on this process are collected from the economy, while the section on current events will contain information on the work of the state, related to this area, as well as information from Europe.
The Program Director for the Environment and the Fight against Climate Change in the EU Delegation to Serbia, Antoine Avignon, assessed that the transition process should be accelerated and that the EU Delegation, with limited funds, is trying to help the Serbian economy implement that process.
We have recently published a call for expressions of interest for international organizations to propose measures for the five pillars of the green agenda, Avignon stated, Dnevnik reports.
