There are 588 Italian companies operating in Serbia, employing more than 50,000 people, and most of them continue to invest and create new jobs, and new investors are constantly coming, according to a study by the Chamber of Italian-Serbian Businessmen and the Italian Embassy in Serbia.
The study will be presented today during talks in Belgrade between Italian Foreign Minister Ivan Scalfarot and Italian businessmen in Serbia.
The research showed that more than 1,600 companies owned by Italian shareholders are registered in Serbia, of which 588 have regular operations, so that Italy is in the leading position in terms of the presence of businessmen and the volume of investments.
Italian companies are present in many sectors, starting from the agri-food, through the automotive, textile and clothing production, information technology, industrial products, consulting and hospitality services, as well as the banking and insurance sector, where Italy occupies a leading position in “Serbia through the presence of companies such as Intesa, UniCredit, Unipol-DDOR and Generali,” the statement said.
It is added that these companies operate throughout Serbia, from Subotica to Vranje, with several clusters in some municipalities, as well as in Belgrade and larger urban centers.
The Ambassador of Italy, Carlo Lo Caso, pointed out that “Italian companies in Serbia, with their investments and business, contribute to the most significant development of bilateral relations” between Serbia and Italy.
He pointed out that the data in the study do not only indicate significant numbers that characterize the presence of Italian entrepreneurship in Serbia, but also the ability of Italian companies to influence the economic development of Italy and Serbia.
“This study confirms Italy’s leading position on foreign investment in Serbia and a great partnership with Serbia, a host country,” said Giorgio Markedjani, president of the Chamber of Italian-Serbian Businessmen and president of the Executive Board of DDOR Insurance, Danas reports.
