By the end of June 2020, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is demanding that the Electric Power Industry of Serbia (EPS) evaluate new tariffs for electricity, which would include increasing the allocation for renewable energy sources, but also increasing the price of electricity by that deadline. The IMF said in a report submitted to Serbian authorities that without these measures it would not be realistic to expect successful financial consolidation of EPS.
– The IMF is seeking a new price hike in the middle of next year as it believes the recent increase in the price of kilowatts is not enough to cover the cost of generating electricity. What is important is that they insist on adopting a formula that would bind electricity prices to inflation, but also set the exact date of the year when the new price list comes into effect – says the source.

It is added that the IMF report cited the end of 2020 as the deadline by which all activities regarding the transformation of EPS from a public company into a joint stock company should be completed, writes Srbija Danas.
