Through the “Together for Active Civil Society – ACT” program, around 100 civil society organizations will receive support over the next four years, with the goal of involving as many citizens as possible in the decision-making process.

The intention is to achieve better connection with citizens, increase civic activism, improve co-operation with local governments to improve public services, greater networking and more efficient action, the Swiss Office for Cooperation said.

The first competition will be launched early next year, for all civil society organizations dealing with topics of interest to the local community, in areas such as civil rights, gender equality, marginalized groups, good governance, law enforcement and policy, social questions, etc.

In addition to improving the work of civic organizations, this program will also provide funding to organizations that, in collaboration with local governments, should work to provide better services to citizens.

About 33,000 different civil society organizations are currently registered in Serbia.

The program “Together for Active Civil Society – ACT” is jointly implemented by the Swiss organization Helvetas and Civic Initiatives from Belgrade.
